My review

4.5

Welcome to the Guardians of Glyndor. A secret academy with skillful guardians with unique powers. These students who usually don't fit in our contemporary society find in this secret school a place where they belong, where they are wanted, needed, and their skills are very useful. There is an antagonistic force led by Morwyn, and their goal is to disrupt and create chaos. The main characters just arrived at the school, and while trying to understand what is going on, how they can keep up with lessons, potion making, rune carving, and more... they also find themselves in the middle of the fight. They investigate and fight this evil force. Emily becomes my favorite character. She is a sivertongue who can communicate with all living things. She is sweet, brave, and optimistic, and it's not surprising that Jesse, the other main character, falls for her immediately. There are two scenes that I love in this first volume: saving the Kitsune (a fox with more than one tail, from Asian lore) and the first kiss scene. Also, because the guardians come from different locations from the entire world, this volume doesn't focus only on asian mythology, but takes into account other cultures and lore. The main characters are a team of 4: Emily, Jesse, Alex, and Victoria.

The students must control their moyra (life's essence), but it can be dangerous, and losing control means they can go into chaos to the dark side.

Fast paced with a very visual narrative, exciting action scenes, and plot focuses, this novel has a great cast of characters.
