Night Frights Level 3 Ready to Read

It's Alive

5+ stars

We love this series. Little horror-thriller Stine-style for younger readers. Ok. They are fun, super well illustrated, and always have hilarious Oh-No kind of end twists. Relatable toys and charcoal to draw. The author makes it clear that these charcoals are different, magical, so the adults can reinforce that there won't be a puppy coming out of the pages or sidewalk, no matter how much we want one.

Not too scary, like a cartoon that level 3 (first to 3rd grade) would enjoy. A good transition from level 2 pages (with 2 or three short sentences) showcasing two paragraphs or a full page of text. More of a short episode/short story.

The cover shows exactly one of the scary pages letting the educators and parents know what to expect.

It has a lot of action and builds tension. Even if the youngest siblings can't keep up with this level of reading they will be attracted to the illustrations and the story they suggest easily.

Also loved Night Frights The Haunted Goldfish

5+ stars

This is a 5+ too because last year we devoured the trilogy my big fat zombie goldfish. It can be sad to have a pet leave us but the plot twist takes this story to the silly humor size.

Like It's Alive it has great illustrations, full pages of text making it a short story with lots of action and dark humor. These are perfect for Stine-vibe kind fans that like an oh-no ending. It would also be a great opportunity to be creative and draw our own zombie fish, colors, shapes, attributes ( one of my students fav activities: own character design). For those parents who go the extra mile, some companies turn the drawings into plushies, or the kids can make crafts creating their own fish monster or even transfer the drawing to a shirt. We like this author he always combines great horror/monsters with silly laughter.

Monster Scout The Show Must Go On

4 stars

Fun. Have you noticed the solution to this mystery is right there, drawn on the cover? Eheh. Our three usual heroes solve the mystery of the missing bone. Oh, no, without it there won't be a band.

Great character design, fun story/adventure. Friends work together to solve the issue. This is a level two, so we get about 2 to 3 simple sentences per page, not overwhelming, direct simple sentences with action.

Little Ghost's Summerween

5 stars

So cute. I wish I had gotten this one earlier, so first step: add to calendar

June 22 if you are a Gravity Falls Fan

31st July just because it feels right (3 months before Halloween) last week of July perfect for pool Halloween movie marathons that can last all August

April 31st or May 1: it's Half-O-Ween for the Hardcore fans (6 months before Halloween)

Now that we have all dates this is the cutest what theme biryhday-party-should-I have-i-like-halloween-but-it's-not-halloween-yet. What a great way to celebrate friends by pleasing them with a variation of what they like most, adapting is the core here. And sticking to what we like as well, don't let others put you down because tastes are different. Friendship is inclusive, just like this little hug of a book is.

School Spirit

3.5 Many kids take meaning literally and they are like my nephew they don't like ghosts or the idea of associating something that causes anxiety with school having ghosts. If this is the case with your child and school is already itself a moment of angst I would leave this one for a time when the child can associate humor and naughty behavior with the silly ghosts, (they are drawn in a cute way to take away that idea of fright and fear). They also act silly which is fun.

I found it a very complex picture book, that will please children who completely discredit the paranormal because they will get the "school spirit" is more about interacting, self-help, not being focused on their own fears and problems, but facing the first day of school jitters with a community sense and spirit.

Letters To the Great Pumpkin

4.5 stars

I love these interactive ones. Loved the Letters to Snoopy too.

In this ond they all write to the Great Pumpkin, their wishes, more like venting about each other ahahah. The letters are inside the envelope, and there is a lot of text for a board book this size. I like that art. I like to keep these in my purse to read whenever I am bored outside.

This edition doesn't have sponge inside the cover, but some peanuts books do.

We should write a letter to the Great Pumpkin too. 🎃

Could that be a Witch ?

5+ My favorite! The Easter Bunny is also right there at the top, but I love the colors, the character design, and the themes of this one. This time, we go, from page to page, see amazing design cuts that let us peek into the next one, finding clues of what seems to be a sweet witch on Halloween. Time to get our trick-or-treat basket ready. I don't have the elf one for Christmas yet, ordering that one.
