Bright Eyes a Memoir

My review

5 stars

I won this book with Goodreads giveaways.

"If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take..."

I loved it. Read it in one sitting. It's hard to give stars to someone's life, so mine reflects the writing style, choices, and how easy it was to read. The s ones are short, and there are lots of relatable episodes. The author says all she needs without graphic descriptions or victimizing herself. It's honest and direct, and she knows when to stop a sentence or a description. Still, it's all there with honesty. And I love that it is a journey towards a positive and motivating (uplifting) outcome.

It's admirable that even at a very young age, the author had a quick logical response before moments of shock and violence, doing a very clever rational thinking process before acting.

I am glad I got to read this one.

Quotes:

"I'll show you where I keep the gun in case you ever need it. (...)

Walking back to the house, shaking my head and laughing a little, I can't believe how stupid that was. Danny really thinks I'm more afraid of strangers than the people we know - the ones who've actually hurt me? Such an idiot."

"Tell yourself what you want about this, but I remember everything you don't because I was sober."

"Because leaving is hard.

Staying is hard.

Not knowing what to do is hard."
