The Devils - Review

5 stars

"No one wants to see doubts."

I have no doubts since the release of First Blade. This author has been at the top of my favorites.

The author rides the dark satire/humor fantasy trend with strong, sassy language, violence, a large cast on a quest, and hilarious scenes and dialogue. It's pure entertainment but it's still the author's voice, long scenes, long and lots of action-adventure scenes, around 70% the politics, intrigue hits hard after a long quest/journey of the worst seven escorting a princess who feels more than a street urchin thief than royalty (no worries she will have some lessons, also hilarious).

There's a focus on a reflection on religion, a medieval European setting mixed with mythology. The werewolf Viggs is a pagan Viking, for example. Corruption of the Roman religion at the core.

A magician, a geriatric vampire who is eating slowly to recover his youth,

a horny werewolf (this one is so much fun), Alex (the princess, another fun one), an elf, a warrior, a knight who can't die, a monk....Who doesn't want to be one... accept a journey... ahah.

General view: This first volume creates a fabulous team of improbable anti-heroes. They have very questionable methods and pasts, but still, they will turn this group into a found family. It sets the vibes and world for the next adventures and missions. Sapphic relationships also.

It's entertaining, and the humor sometimes borders on ridiculous, like Monty Python style and Bloody Rose vibes.

Lots of flourishing sexual puns and horny interactions. I love this type of fantasy for my spring and summer reads. Makes me laugh out loud. I am very happy with the narrator of the audiobook as well.

Something like: not shieldmaidens... more like bitch axes ahahsh
