A summer visit. A string of romantic lessons. In Some Love Lasts and Getting to Yes, Tim Hunniecutt explores how formative relationships shape identity, memory, and the way love is understood long after youth gives way to adulthood.

Some Love Lasts
Set along the Florida coast, fourteen-year-old Madi expects peaceful days at her grandparents’ condo. Instead, she meets Matthew, the older neighbor whose swimmer’s build and lifeguard instincts make him both admired and quietly distant. Matthew is known for stepping into danger without hesitation, but when he looks at Madi, his attention feels personal and unexpected.
As the days grow warmer, their connection deepens into something intense and difficult to define. What begins as curiosity becomes an emotional bond neither of them anticipated. When a hurricane tears through the shoreline, Matthew risks everything in a rescue that permanently shapes Madi’s understanding of devotion and sacrifice. Years later, they reunite in college, carrying with them the weight of a summer that altered their lives and defined what love would come to mean.

Getting to Yes
Nineteen-year-old Chris moves through early adulthood with a hopeful heart and a desire for something genuine. Told in his own voice, the story traces his growing familiarity with women, their expectations, and his own evolving sense of self. Through colorful and sometimes humorous encounters, each relationship leaves behind insight, confusion, or clarity.
As Chris continues searching for connection, the lessons accumulate. He begins to recognize patterns in himself and in the women he meets. Then he locks eyes with Chloe, and the shift is immediate. Their connection feels different, raising questions about whether love can ever be simple. The story reflects on innocence, heartbreak, and the quiet persistence of hope that guides a young man toward understanding what it truly means to commit.

Tim Hunniecutt has loved words since childhood, writing poems and stories for family and friends from an early age. Lifeguards have played a meaningful role in his life, from the rescue of his younger brother to several of his own children who later worked as lifeguards. He studied psychology and English at Florida State University, where the emotional spark for this story began after he fell in love during his first summer home from school. He now lives in Lithia, Florida, with that same girl, now his wife, and enjoys traveling, escape games, ballroom dancing with her, and time with his grandchildren.
