Love this series. The experience the author has as a thriller author brings a lot of fast-paced action adventure. In the first volume, we are presented with the characters, worldbuilding, and magic system that borrows from sci-fi. Having a homage to classic epic fantasy published recently makes me very hopeful. I was tired of reading fantasy where the characters are all badass heroes who fix everything with their presence. To the style of Lord of the Rings (team gathered on a quest, always moving forward, facing constant events and challenges) with the vibes of Earthsea and Chronicles of Prydain. It has many classic elements I miss and love. More... the characters in the first volume are 14, 16... making this a coming-of-age. It's still an adult read, Lyra is a character that lifts the reading level with her language. At the same time, it is well balanced with female and male characters playing equally relevant parts in saving the world, although teens who like action more than romantsy will be drawn to this series as well.
The books look long, more or less 20 hours each, but they read very well because there's always something happening.
The author planned 4 books so I am already excited to jump into the last ones.
