5 Awesome Haunted House with a twist, I can't say much about it without spoilers, but it includes generatios, lore, demons, summonings, curses, murders, visions, light romance, mental health, women being put down by men, but a main character taking control of all and saving the day. The blurb said for fans of The Shining. I can see that. A family house turned into a hotel. A family visiting the hotel now and remembering living there before, where the mother died...

A Song of Legends Lost

4.5 This is a good one for those who like a large cast, lots of POVs, and a slow build. Many characters are interesting from the start, and others grow on us. I ended up loving the disgraced son of a general more than the rest, although Elari was my fav for a long time (still is one of my fav). I love the creatures, mysticism, and magic system of the world. I had never read that author before, but although it's slow to start, I like it.

The Manor of Dreams

4.5 This was such a captivating novel. The past narration took over the main mystery for me. I was so drawn to the family living as glamorous actresses and producers (what people see) vs. the abuse and sadness of their daily lives. Made me so mad how the husband treated his wife. We unveil secrets of this family related to their children, and all lead to unveiling the main plot. Seen "in between" by both cultures, Americans asking where she is from, Chinese families not relating to her at all. There are gothic dark elements that make the present and past stories with a great mood.

Good Joyful Things

4 This book twists our gut and makes us want to scream. How their obsession with one guy can be at the core of their happiness in a way that makes them humiliated; the sad thing is that we've all been there. The author is great at pulling the rage out, and the book is long. There is plenty to be explosive about. I had to take some breaks. I pitted them, but I also wanted to shake them awake. Manipulative characters done well.
