This one was breathtaking, with always something happening and a twist when the characters (and us) think they have grasped the answer. This is not an easy one. Mac is about to lose a close family member in the worst way possible. Murder. Although they unveil the culprit, there are many morally grey acts, corruption in law and politics, and con artists to uncover even more than what Mac thought he had gotten away with (from DC). Of course the German Sheppard has several rounds of applause for all the great work put into this case as well. The author enriches her novels by exploring more than just the solving of crimes, including themes like addiction, romance, and humor that balance well with the action and tension scenes.
