I liked this one a lot and I confess that I had to read the last 100 pages twice. The 60% felt really slow and dragging. The first time I almost skimmed through it. I had to know. I had to listen to what Ennis had to say. Once I did, I went back and reread calmly to find all the clues and proof. The entire book is one thing up to the end when it becomes something else. It is abrupt in the realization of the despair, loss, and violence, but not abrupt as a switch of plot because the author has been setting it up since the start. This is a mystery/thriller that made me feel unease. I wasn't surprised by the paranormal horror bits because the blurb says haunting quite explicitly. I always wondered how the children of famous people cope and deal with success or a unique family routine. I liked it also because, as Edith and Guin are storytellers, the father and Ennis are artists.

MURDER AT THE HOTEL ORIENT

For fans of sassy, noir, golden age vibes. The Hotel is a "love hotel" and the concierge is such a fun shameless direct character. Slow pace, not the exciting thrilling mystery. I read it at the beach. Has some memorable scenes, my favorite among others was when Ferdinand tells her he has a secret, intact, two... You know I love you more than bl jobs. I didn't really care about the victims or solving the crime, mostly I cared about the duo sassy concierge and blushing detective.

Their dialogue is always sensual, and the author adds some erotism to it overall. I also recommend the audio for traveling makes it funnier.
