Professional responsibility takes on unexpected weight in Fire Feud by Thomas Roehlk, where legal oversight becomes inseparable from personal consequence. What begins as a contained assignment gradually reveals layers of risk that extend far beyond corporate liability.

When skeletal remains are uncovered at a Chicago construction site, attorney Mandy Doucette is brought in to manage the legal and corporate implications. Initial assumptions about the discovery collapse when DNA analysis connects the remains to her own company—and to the family of her boyfriend. The situation escalates quickly, transforming routine compliance work into a deeply personal crisis.

Mandy’s twin sister Reggie, an FBI forensic pathologist, uncovers evidence tying the remains to a crime committed in the aftermath of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Her findings expose a long-standing feud between two powerful families, one sustained through deception, fraud, and violence. As the sisters investigate further, they confront individuals determined to protect their legacies at any cost, placing both women in increasing danger as buried truths surface.
