Daughter of the Underworld

5+ Loved this volume and characters, the level of betrayal is so sad and infuriating. They are all trying to survive.

Tyrant king Orpheus has a secret challenge and requests volunteers to go rescue his beloved wife Eurydice from the Underworld in exchange they can be free, slaves no more. Deina a Soul Severer has nothing to lose, it will take years before she can accumulate enough jobs escorting souls of the departed to conquer her freedom. She jumps at this challenge, others do too because everyone has a life-or-death situation to solve. Not only are they sent there as a team of people who don't trust each other, but they learn that there are other teams and not all can be winners.

The betrayals are in every corner, characters and promises. She has someone watching her or over her... no spoilers.

Deina learns more about herself and her choices are extreme, be all and feel nothing, be human and feel all.

The end is satisfyingly tragic and I am excited to see what the author will do in Queen of the Gods.

P. S.- Hades is delightful as always.
