This hits all my favorite things in a historical fiction. Double POV (ancient Egypt following the Reign of Hatshepsut, from princess to Queen) and the English excavations in Egypt with an independent, knowledgeable archaeologist. I love the parallelism between the Queen's life as a ruler, with her mother trying to keep her within the socially acceptable rules, and the same happening with Evelyn. And the father figure is always supporting and teaching the daughters to take over.
I recommend the audio. Here's why:
The audiobook for Daughter of Egypt by Marie Benedict (releasing March 24, 2026) is narrated by Bessie Carter and Suehyla El-Attar. Carter narrates the sections focusing on Evelyn Herbert, while El-Attar handles the sections regarding Hatshepsut. The unabridged audio runs for 11 hours and 47 minutes.
Bessie Carter was Prudence in Bridgerton.
